The Project "+ Próximo", promoted by the Humanitarian Center of Tavira of the Portuguese Red Cross, in partnership with the Municipality of Alcoutim and the Ministry of Internal Administration, was one of the 10 finalists distinguished nationally, under the 12th edition of the Manuel António da Mota | Portugal Resiste Award, in a ceremony at the Congress Center of Alfândega do Porto.
Alcoutim is a predominantly rural county, scattered over several mountain ranges; it is one of the counties with the most aged population. In addition to social and geographical isolation, many of these elderly people have no family support, and have many difficulties in accessing health services.
The project "+ Próximo" promotes the reduction of vulnerabilities of the elderly in situations of social and / or geographical isolation, combining the technological component of Teleassistance, the human component, with the monitoring of proximity, by a technician of the Emergency Unit of the Humanitarian Center of Tavira.
We are very proud of this recognition, perpetuating our will to continue the work developed with our seniors, as well as being able to replicate these good practices in other municipalities.
With the Project "+ Próximo" our seniors feel safer as well as their families.
Best wishes!
