The awards were presented at the Algarve Regional Meeting on Innovation and Best Practices in Active and Healthy Aging, which took place on March 18, 2022, in the Grand Auditorium of the University of Algarve.

This event aimed to promote and disseminate the best practices carried out in the Algarve region in the field of active and healthy aging, fostering dialogue and debate in the search for better solutions to practice with the senior population and the Humanitarian Center of Tavira of the Portuguese Red Cross was a big winner, because it got two first prizes out of four possible.

 

The project "Rehabilitating for Life" aims to promote active aging; increase the well-being of the intervened seniors; prevent and combat social isolation and stimulate cognitively and physically the seniors, using Immersive Virtual Reality Technology (i.e., Virtual Reality Glasses) and Non-Immersive Virtual Reality (i.e., Wii, with balance platform and Tablet).
This is a project of Portugal Social Innovation | Partnerships for Impact, co-financed by Portugal 2020, Grow Algarve 2020 and the European Social Fund, having as Social Investors the Municipalities of Alcoutim, Castro Marim and Tavira.
 

For the success of the project also has the support of the following partners: NOS, Samsung, Rotary Club Tavira and University of the Algarve (UAlg).

 

The project "+ Próximo" aims to promote the reduction of vulnerabilities of the elderly, combining, for this purpose, the technological component of the Teleassistance service of the Portuguese Red Cross, the human component with the monitoring of proximity, periodically and at home, by a technician of the Emergency Unit.
This is the result of a protocol of association to the Local Security Contract of the Municipality of Alcoutim signed between the Government of Internal Administration, the Municipality of Alcoutim and the Humanitarian Center of Tavira of the Portuguese Red Cross.
